Building Africa's Biggest Open Source Tech Conference

We did a thing - all teams from Kubernetes Community Day - KCD Nigeria, Community Health Analytics in Open Source Software - CHAOSS Africa, Sustain Africa, and Open Source Community Africa came together to host the THE BIGGEST Open Source T E C H conference in Africa!

With over 100 sessions, 1,000+ attendees, and tens of volunteers, this half-week-long conference saw me become all things to all men. I wore many hats - organizer, host, speaker, servant, concierge, cook, waiter, etc.

As African Ambassador for the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), I’m thankful for the opportunity to speak at CHAOSSCon Africa on the topic: “Putting Passion to Work: Building Africa’s Cloud Native Community”.

I also got on stage to showcase an open-source project of mine called “Markdown-badges”. A very simple project with 100+ contributors and 15,000+ GitHub stars. I’m still amazed at that project. Check it out at https://lnkd.in/dFWPN47

We had attendees from Lagos & Abuja (Nigeria), Zambia, Kenya, Colombia, and the USA, and I made some new friends (please keep in touch, y’all). Our tech diasporeans (awon IJGB) were well represented too!

Indeed, Tech in Africa has come a long way; however, there’s still a long way to go, and the community is equal to the task.

To everyone who came for the conference, far and near, to those who sponsored, those who volunteered and served, those who gave, who spoke, who listened, who ate, and ate again, on behalf of all teams combined, I say a BIG THANK YOU, and God bless you! Your needs are met, and your bills are paid. Say amen to that!
